The State of NRL Transfers

After various news outlets have reported on rumors of Manly's star play-maker Daly Cherry-Evans (picture right) considering backing out of his multi-million dollar deal to join the Gold Coast Titans in 2016, various NRL players are calling for the removal of the controversial Round 13 clause that allows players to back out of signed contracts by that time in the season.

In my opinion, the Round 13 clause is extremely stupid. Once a player commits to a deal and signs a contract that should be final. They shouldn't have until a certain date to turn around and break their word, rendering contracts useless. If Cherry-Evans goes through with this back-out it will be an enormous blow to the Titans who were wanting him to become the new face of the club. They even had to let go off a few players to get him there.

However, over the past few days Cherry-Evans has been hounded by media and he has come out stating that he in fact won't be backing out of his initial deal.

In the western area of Sydney the in-form Parramatta Eels aren't too worried about their deal with Manly's other star play-maker, Kieran Foran (pictured below), backing out of his multi-million dollar deal with them. Eels CEO has stated that "they discussed the Round 13 clause with Kieran" during the signing process.

Sadly, this Round 13 clause is put in place to support the club the player in question is leaving, not the one their joining. This is a pressing issue and I am sure we will hear more and more about it if an abundance of players continue to break their word and back out of their contracts.
